Helping Surrendered Dogs in California

We are dedicated to shining a light on the staggering numbers of dogs being surrendered to overcrowded shelters in California. We are committed to preventing surrenders by offering resources, advocating for change, and offering funds in the form of mini-grants and pledges to expedite the release of adoptable, surrendered dogs from shelters and to assist everyday people in helping dogs in their community.

Our Mission

You can’t change where they came from. But you can change where they’re going.

Most people care deeply about animals, but the shelter system is complicated, heartbreaking, and often hidden from view. At Ruff Justice, we believe change starts with shining a light on the issue, having honest conversations, and giving everyday people ways to make a difference.

Not everyone can adopt or foster, but everyone can help. Sometimes that means sharing resources or starting conversations in your own community. Sometimes it looks like organizing a letter-writing campaign, hosting a microchip or spay/neuter clinic, or rallying neighbors to foster a group of dogs.

To make these efforts possible, we offer mini-grants, small but powerful bursts of support that help by expediting rescue for surrendered dogs who need out quickly, and giving people the tools to launch grassroots projects that make a difference where they live.

Ruff Justice exists to connect caring people with practical action. With creativity, compassion, and community, we can tip the odds for surrendered dogs and help build a better system for the future.
